Volleyball: 2nd region tournament first round games saw Caldwell County blank Trigg County 3 sets to none, with Christian County defeating Union County also 3 sets to none.
Logan County defeated Allen County Scottsville 3-0 at the 4th region tournament. 1st region action saw Ballard Memorial defeat Marshall County 3-1 and McCracken County over Hickman County 3-0. Meade County defeated Muhlenberg County 3 sets to none at the 3rd region tournament.
Soccer: Boys state tournament first round games saw 4th region winner Bowling Green blank 1st region winner Graves County 4-0. 2nd region winner Henderson County also shut out 3rd region winner Owensboro Catholic 4-0.
Bowling Green will play North Oldham and Henderson County will face Johnson Central in the quarterfinals Saturday at Henry Clay High School in Lexington.
Volleyball: 1st round play continues in the 2nd region tournament at Livingston Central. Henderson County meets Hopkins Central at 6, with University Heights and host Livingston Central in the nightcap.
1st region opening round games continue this evening with Murray meeting Graves County and Fulton City meets Community Christian at Ballard Memorial.
Soccer: 1st round games in the Girls state tournament take place this evening. 1st region winner Marshall County plays at 4th region winner Bowling Green and 2nd region winner Henderson County hosts 3rd region winner Owensboro Catholic.
High School Football: The Associated Press has released its weekly polls.
Caldwell County remains atop the Class 2-A poll, with Union County 7th. Mayfield remains first in the Class A poll with Russellville dropping to third.
Belfry is still first in 3-A, with South Warren 4th and Paducah Tilghman 9th. Highlands still atop the 4-A poll with Owensboro ranked 7th. Bowling Green remains atop the Class 5-A poll, with Scott County atop the 6-A poll, with McCracken County ranked 7th.
College Football: Kentucky coach Mark Stoops said Monday Jalen Whitlow will start at quarterback when the Wildcats host Alabama State Saturday night. Whitlow played some in last week’s loss at Mississippi State and despite suffering a dinged up shoulder in the game, Stoops said Whitlow better be ready on Saturday.
Also, Stoops announced Resse Phillips would be the third string quarterback this week. Stoops also said the Wildcats have to play smarter football, stating there were too many little mistakes at Mississippi State. You can hear Saturday’s game beginning at 5 on Lite 98.7.
College Basketball: Kentucky hits the hardwood for the first time this evening in the Blue/White scrimmage. Coverage from Rupp Arena begins at 6 on Lite 98.7.
Defending national champion Louisville plays its first pre season game this evening at the KFC/Yum Center meeting Kentucky Wesleyan. Kentucky Wesleyan has a new coach in Happy Osborne and is ranked third pre season in the Sporting News Division Two poll.
Western Kentucky’s Lady Toppers also have their first exhibition game in Diddle Arena this evening, facing Kentucky Wesleyan.
