6th district soccer finals: Henderson County defeated Webster County 8-1 in the girls championship game, with Henderson County also winning the boys championship 10-0 over Union County.
Today’s High School schedule
8th district finals at Stadium of Champions: Christian County meets University Heights in the boys final at 5:30, followed by Hopkinsville and University Heights in the girls final at 7:30.
7th district at Dawson Springs: Caldwell County meets Madisonville in both the boys and girls finals, with the boys game at 5:30 and the girls game at 7:30.
5th district at Trigg County: The host Wildcats meet Lyon County in both the boys and girls final, with the boys game at 5:30 and the girls game at 7:30.
13th district at Franklin Simpson: Todd Central meets Logan County in the girls final at 5:30, with host Franklin Simpson meeting Todd Central in the boys final at 7:30.
Volleyball: University Heights travels to Union County, Hopkinsville goes to Madisonville, Todd Central at Muhlenberg County, Trigg County hosts Webster County, Caldwell County welcomes Murray, Calloway County hosts Paducah Tilghman.
College Basketball: The Southeastern Conference began its media days Wednesday in Birmingham. Kentucky was picked in the pre season poll to win the league, followed by Florida, Tennessee, LSU and Missouri in the top 5. Vanderbilt was picked 10th.
Kentucky freshman Julius Randle was selected first team All SEC along with Tennessee’s Jordan McRae, Marshall Henderson of Ole Miss, Trevor Releford of Alabama, and Johnny O’Bryant III of LSU.
Kentucky had three members on the second team All SEC with Willie Cauley-Stein and freshmen Andrew Harrison and Dakari Johnson. Tennessee had junior Jarnell Stokes and senior Jeronne Maymon.
Kentucky freshman Julius Randle was also named the SEC pre season player of the year.
Defending national champion Louisville was picked to win the American Athletic Conference during its media day Wednesday in Memphis. The Cardinals-who have three starters returning this season-placed senior guard Russ Smith and Chane Behanan on the AAC pre season first team, with Montrezl Harrell named to the second team.
Russ Smith was also selected as the AAC pre season player of the year.
College Football: Kentucky coach Mark Stoops said Wednesday during the SEC teleconference there was no news to report on quarterback Jalen Whitlow’s ankle sprain suffered in the Alabama game. Stoops is hopeful Whitlow can return for next Thursday night’s game at Mississippi State.
NFL: Tennessee Titans quarterback Jake Locker practiced Wednesday for the first time since inuring his knee and hip in a game three weeks ago. However, Titans coach Mike Munchak does not expect Locker to play Sunday when Tennessee hosts the San Francisco 49ers.
NHL: The Nashville Predators seek their third win in as many games as they host the LA Kings this evening. Coverage of the game from Bridgestone Arena begins at 7 on News/Talk WHOP.
