KHSAA commissioner Julian Tackett has issued a statement today regarding a clarification about post game activities following sporting events.
The commissioner said when he issued the directive Tuesday, it was at best a poorly worded and at worst incomplete notice in regards to post game activities. Tackett said today there is no ban on postgame handshakes or other types of good sporting behavior by the Commissioner, the KHSAA or its board of control.
Yesterday, it was reported that there was a ban in place and if schools chose to continue the tradition of post game handshakes that they were to be monitored by school officials.
High School Football: Caldwell County is ranked 20th in this week’s Courier Journal Litkenhous rankings. It’s the first appearance in the poll for the Tigers. Trinity is first, with Bowling Green second, McCracken County 6th and Mayfield is ranked 13th.
MLB: The St. Louis Cardinals and Pittsburgh Pirates play a decisive fifth game in their NL Division Series this evening at Busch Stadium. Cardinals ace Adam Wainwright who was the game 1 winner goes to the mound this evening to face Pirates rookie Gerrit Cole, who won game 2 for the Bucs. The winner faces the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NL Championship series beginning Saturday.
The ALDS between Detroit and Oakland moves to a fifth game tomorrow in Oakland, with the winner to travel cross country to meet the Boston Red Sox Saturday in the AL Championship series.
The Arizona Diamondbacks are bringing back manager Kirk Gibson, whose contract ended at the conclusion of the 2013 season. Gibson's 290 wins rank third all- time in franchise history.
College Baseball: Western Kentucky has released its 2014 schedule which has 8 teams that participated in last year’s NCAA tournament. The schedule includes a home and home series with College World Series participant Louisville along with a road game at CWS participant Indiana. The Hilltoppers also will play at Super Regional participant Vanderbilt along with a two game road series at Georgia and a road game at Kentucky.
NFL: New York Giants running back David Wilson has been ruled out of Thursday night’s game against the Chicago Bears due to a neck injury he suffered in the Giants Week 5 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.
Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Julio Jones may miss the rest of the season due to a foot injury. An Atlanta newspaper, citing an unidentified team official, is reporting that Jones will be evaluated further today.
