College Football: The 2013 season begins this evening with three Southeastern Conference teams in action.
Vanderbilt entertains Ole Miss following 6th ranked South Carolina’s opener against North Carolina. One other Top 25 team is in action this evening as the 24th ranked Southern California Trojans open the season at Hawaii.
Several Ohio Valley Conference teams open the season this evening including UT Martin at Chattanooga, Eastern Kentucky hosts Robert Morris, Tennessee Tech hosts Cumberland University and Southeast Missouri is at Southeastern Louisiana.
NFL: All of the teams will play their final pre season games this evening. Action includes the Tennessee Titans at the Minnesota Vikings, while the St. Louis Rams host the world champion Baltimore Ravens. The NFL regular season begins one week from this evening.
MLB: It’s a travel day for the Cincinnati Reds as they head west to Denver to open a series with the Colorado Rockies tomorrow night, with pre game coverage on the air at 7:10 on News/Talk WHOP.
The Reds trail St. Louis by 3 ½ games in the NL Central race. The Cardinals and the Chicago Cubs are both off today, while the Atlanta Braves conclude an interleague series with the Cleveland Indians this evening.
NBA: Atlanta Hawks head coach Mike Budenholzer was arrested Wednesday night on a drunk driving charge. According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, a Georgia State Patrol trooper stopped Budenholzer's vehicle at about 10:30 p.m. ET because its tail lights were not operating.
The paper said Budenholzer was booked into the Atlanta City Jail and was released at 3:45 a.m. Thursday morning on $1,524 bond. Budenholzer was named the new Hawks coach in May after spending the past 19 seasons in San Antonio, the last 17 as an assistant coach.
