College Football: Western Kentucky coach Bobby Petrino has yet to name a starting quarterback, but those in the know believe it will be Brandon Doughty when the Hilltoppers meet Kentucky August 31st at LP Field in Nashville. However, Doughty and Demarcus Smith remain in a battle to see who the starter will be.
The Hilltoppers had their first scrimmage of fall camp Saturday, with Petrino saying afterwards he was pleased with the play of the first team defense. Petrino was also pleased with how the offense moved the ball, even though they failed to score any points. He added the running game performed well, but was not happy with the timing of the passing game.
Meanwhile, Kentucky is still trying to decide who its starting quarterback will be for the season opener with WKU. Jalen Whitlow is believed to be the front runner for the job, even though offensive coordinator Neal Brown stated last week they may not tell who the starter will be.
Murray State is a bit closer to naming its starting quarterback following its final fall scrimmage Saturday. WPSD-Paducah reports coach Chris Hatcher as saying it’s a two horse race between Ole Miss transfer Maikhail Miller and junior Parks Frazier. Hatcher says the two have been the most consistent in fall camp. The Racers open the season August 31st at Missouri.
