Golf: Princeton Golf and Country Club is hosting a reception this evening in honor of Emma Talley, who won the US Women’s Amateur Championship on Sunday. The event will be held at the club at 1001 South Jefferson Street from 6-8 pm. Everyone is welcome to attend.
Ticket sales for the 2014 PGA Championship to be played at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville broke single day sales records Monday. The Courier Journal reports even though the PGA doesn’t release actual numbers of tickets sold, championship director Brett Sterba says the record was broken in four hours.
The old single day record was held by Kiwah Island, which hosted the 2012 PGA. Officials predict the tournament will be a complete sellout as it was when played at Valhalla in 1996 and 2000.
College Football: University of Louisville Coach Charlie Strong announced Monday members of the Cardinal team will not sign autographs when Louisville hosts its Fan Day next Sunday. Strong says the decision was made in response to recent concerns over player’s autographs being sold on the Internet.
The Lexington Herald Leader reported Monday Kentucky signee Melvin Lewis has completed requirements for his degree at Fullerton College and is heading to Lexington this week.
The 6-4, 320 pound defensive tackle had 41 tackles, 3 ½ quarterback sacks and six tackles for loss during his sophomore season at Fullerton College. He will have two years eligibility for the Wildcats.
Kentucky also learned Monday that cornerback Nate Willis has completed his junior college course work and will be eligible this season. The recruit from Arizona Western says he will be in Lexington as soon as possible according to a story in today’s Lexington Herald Leader.
Arraignment has been set for the four former Vanderbilt football players involved in an on campus sex crime. News Channel 5-Nashville reports the four will appear in court next week. Brandon Vandenberg, Corey Batey, Brandon Banks and Jaborian “Tip” McKenzie will all appear in Criminal Court on August 21st.
The four were arrested over the weekend following indictments charging the men with rape and sexual assault. The arrests stem from the alleged attack of an unconscious woman at a campus residence hall last month.
The Tennessean reports the Franklin American Music City Bowl announced Monday an extension with the Southeastern Conference through the 2019 season. Last month, the Music City Bowl announced a partnership with the Gator Bowl and the Big 10 and Atlantic Coast Conferences to play opposite the SEC in Nashville through 2019.
This year’s Music City Bowl will take place on Monday December 30th at LP Field at 2:15 pm and be televised by ESPN.
College Basketball: Western Kentucky’s season opening basketball game at Wichita State will tip off at midnight on Monday November 11th. The game to air on ESPN 2 will be one of many that will air on the ESPN networks as part of the 2013 ESPN Tip Off Marathon. The Shockers are coming off a trip to last year’s Final Four and will be one of four teams WKU meets this season that had 27 or more wins a year ago.
