Hoppers Baseball: The Hoptown Hoppers close out the home portion of Ohio Valley League regular season action this evening hosting the Owensboro Oilers. First pitch at Hopkinsville High’s Tiger Field is set for 7:05, with pre game coverage on the air at 6:45 on News/Talk WHOP and online at whopam.com.
Other games in the OVL this evening have Fulton hosting Marion in a doubleheader and Madisonville travels to Dubois County.
College Football: The Ohio Valley Conference held its Football Media Day in Nashville Monday.
Eastern Illinois was the choice of the league’s coaches and sports information directors to win the league this season, with Murray State tied for 6th with Tennessee Tech and Austin Peay under new coach Kirby Cannon picked last.
Murray State running back Jamal Berry and wide receiver Walter Powell were named to the OVC pre season all conference offensive team, along with Austin Peay offensive lineman Ben Stansfield.
No Murray State or Austin Peay players were named to the pre season all conference defensive team, but Murray State’s Walter Powell was named as return specialist.
The Knoxville News Sentinel reports the University of Tennessee will be tweaking its iconic football uniform this season. The team will wear a state of Tennessee patch above their names on both the home and road jerseys. Coach Butch Jones also says the road jerseys will have a checkerboard background with orange numbers.
College Basketball: The national champion Louisville Cardinals team will visit the White House today. The team will meet with President Obama early this afternoon.
While we’re on the Cards, the Courier Journal reports 2014 commitment JaQuan Lyles announced via Twitter Monday he is transferring from Bosse High School in Evansville to Huntington Prep for his senior year. If Lyle had stayed at Bosse, he would have been one of the top candidates for Indiana’s Mr. Basketball next year.
