A Hopkinsville woman is accused of assaulting a police officer yesterday.
Arrested around 3:15pm was 31-year old Georgina Washington of Hopkinsville, who reportedly called the Emergency Communications Center and cussed at dispatchers before showing up at the Hopkinsville Police Department headquarters to report a crime.
When an officer explained to her that what she was describing was not a crime, she allegedly began screaming and asking police why they brought her there. The incident reportedly lasted for several minutes before backup was called and that’s when Washington allegedly walked up to Lieutenant Jeff Alexander and started punching him.
She allegedly kept fighting with officers as she was being arrested and was charged with assault of a police officer, disorderly conduct and falsely reporting an incident.
After several mis-trials in civilian court, the fate of a former Fort Campbell soldier charged with murdering his estranged wife and her former mother-in-law is now in the hands of military justice.
Brent Burke will be facing a general court-martial next Monday and military officials say the court martial is expected to last an entire week.
As previously reported by Lite 98.7, Burke is charged with violating several sections of the Uniform Code of Military Justice by killing Tracy Burke and Karen Comer inside Comer’s Rineyville residence on September 11th 2007.
In addition to the murder charges, Burke is also charged with committing burglary for allegedly unlawfully entering the residence of Karen Comer.
Burke was reportedly tried four times in civilian court, where two of the trials ended in mistrials and the other two trials ended in hung juries.
The former Sergeant remains in pre-trial confinement and if he is convicted of the charges he faces death or life in prison.
Clarksville Police say they narrowly missed apprehending a man with multiple warrants and who is also a person of interest in shots being fired at an Oak Grove Police officer.
According to police, around 8:45 this morning, police received a tip that 26-year old Christopher Jerome Walker was located in the Mid-Towner Motel located on 890 Kraft Street.
However, after reviewing video surveillance from the motel, Walker was able to escape right before officers surrounded the area.
Walker has a robbery warrant on file out of Hopkinsville for the January 30th armed robbery of A-C Automotive and 4 warrants on file in Clarksville for aggravated assault, and aggravated burglary.
Police say Walker is considered armed and dangerous and anyone who comes into contact with him should call 9-1-1.
The Hopkinsville Fire Department responded to an exhaust system fire at a factory in Industrial Park yesterday.
The report says eight trucks and 16 fire-fighters responded to Martinrea on Frank Yost Lane just after 4pm, where a welding torch apparently set the dust collector on fire.
Fire-fighters used a combination of their own equipment and equipment on hand at the factory to put the blaze out rather quickly and every unit was gone within two hours.
No damages are noted to the facility or contents on the report.
