A woman was reportedly raped in Christian County Saturday evening and an Elkton man has been charged with the crime.
The 23-year old victim had been walking on Main Street in Hopkinsville Saturday evening between 7 and 7:30 when she was approached by a man in a vehicle who asked if she needed a ride. The victim told police she turned it down at first, but then decided to accept the ride because it was raining.
The man then allegedly drove her to a rural area on Antioch Church Road and raped her.
Further investigation by the Christian County Sheriff's Office resulted in a traffic stop just across the Todd County line a few hours later, and 55-year old Tony Lanier of Elkton was brought back to Hopkinsville for questioning.
The arrest citation says Lanier admitted to having sex with the woman. Christian County Sheriff's Captain Chris Miller says a search warrant was also executed at Lanier's home and on his vehicle. Lanier was arrested after being interviewed at the Sheriff's Department and was charged with first degree rape.
