Todd County Jailer Greg Allen has submitted his budget proposal to Fiscal Court, requesting a little less from the general fund in the coming fiscal year.
Allen says the 1.9 million dollar spending plan includes a transfer of about $850,000 from the county's general fund—slightly down from last year.
Income is projected at just under 1.1 million dollars and expenses just over 1.9 million. Allen says the jail has found savings over the last couple of years in areas such as maintenance.
As they are for the average citizens, medical expenses continue to increase for the jail. Allen says having a certified laboratory in the jail has helped reduce some of those costs in recent months.
The jail's largest expense is $720,000 for the salaries of deputies, followed by $310,000 or payments on the building. The spending plan was submitted only for review purposes and will receive a vote at a later meeting. Allen says he estimates it would cost the county about 1.2 million dollars out of the general fund to send inmates to another county if the jail did not exist.
In other action, court gave approval to Todd County Dispatch Director Donna Ruby to spend about $1,000 to purchase a new computer.
