State Senator Whitney Westerfield
Four state lawmakers representing different parts of the region spoke at Monday afternoon’s April meeting of the Pennyrile Area Development Board of Directors.
Third District State Senator Whitney Westerfield, who represents Todd and Christian counties in the PADD area, went over several pieces of legislation passed in the upper chamber during his first session and looked forward to the interim period. Westerfield says he and Representative John Tilley will co-chair the Task Force on Juvenile Crime Reform that will begin meeting next month.
Representative Tilley talked about the changes made to the Pill Mill Bill and say the Center for Disease Control has called prescription drug addiction an epidemic, making the legislation all the more important.
First District State Senator Stan Humphries of Cadiz said several pieces of important legislation made it through both chambers, but there was no doubt pension system reform was what garnered the most headlines this year.
Fourth District Representative Lynn Bechler also spoke and said he hopes to see more cuts in spending when legislators return to Frankfort next year for a budget session.
