Almost half of fatal wrecks that happen in the days around Christmas and New Years involve alcohol and Kentucky State Police hope to save lives by getting impaired drivers off the roads.
KSP Public Information Officer Trooper Stu Recke says they are making extra efforts to arrest anyone driving under the influence through their “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign, which runs throughout the holiday season. Trooper Recke says it's very simple, if you know you are going to be drinking, have a safe way to get home.
Far too often in the past, motorists have ignored the warnings and Trooper Recke says too many families have received a knock on the door to learn they lost a loved one due to a drunk driver around Christmas.
Police agencies across Kentucky and Tennessee are participating in similar campaigns and all of them say one thing—anyone caught driving impaired will go to jail with no exceptions.
