The first significant blast of winter weather could impact the southern Pennyrile region later this week, though there are still a lot of unknowns.
The National Weather Service in Paducah has issued special weather statements regarding the possibility of frozen or freezing precipitation Thursday and Friday and Warning Coordination Meteorologist Rick Shanklin says it's all due to two weather systems converging on the area—one with moisture and the other with cold air.
Shanklin expects the area to get a mixed bag of winter precipitation, including freezing rain, before it ends as snow Friday.
While travel impacts are expected at some point late this week, Shanklin says they don't anticipate it being a major winter storm at this time.
