Todd County residents who have their trash picked up at the end of their driveway will likely soon have a new collector and could have a higher bill.
Madisonville Disposal currently does the pickup under a franchise agreement at a cost of $12 monthly—which was by far the lowest bid the last time bids were accepted. Todd County Attorney Mac Johns says the company's business plan hasn't worked and there have been multiple complaints from the public about poor service.
He says Madisonville Disposal believes their franchise agreement has expired and he's ready to agree.
Johns says the county has tried to work with the company on working out issues, but to no avail.
Meeting in special session, Todd Fiscal Court unanimously voted to bid out the franchise again with the option to not accept any bids. Waste collection companies in Todd County must compete with the county convenience centers, which allows residents to drop their own trash off in Elkton, Trenton, Allensville and Clifty for only $36 a year.
