Unemployment was down slightly from July to August in Kentucky, but up a little from last year's numbers.
The Office of Employment and Training says the jobless rate was 8.4 percent in August—down one tenth of a percent from the July figure. It was one tenth higher than last year's August rate.
Kentucky's professional and business services added 2,700 positions in August, an increase of 1.4 percent from July. The construction sector increased by 1,700 jobs, the manufacturing sector was up by 1,500 jobs and the educational and health services sector was up by 1,300.
The informational sector, which includes newspapers, other media, telecommunications and motion pictures, lost 500 jobs in August.
The national jobless rate dropped to 7.3 percent in August.
