Hopkinsville resident and retired Kentucky State Police Detective Jerry Pepper has been hired as the next Police Chief in Elkton.
Elkton Mayor Nancy Camp says she interviewed multiple candidates after current Chief Bruce Marklin announced he would retire and Pepper just came across as the man for the job.
Mayor Camp says Pepper will begin his duties at the beginning of August and Chief Markin will help him get acclimated to the job for a couple of weeks before he leaves.
Pepper is a former criminal justice instructor at Hopkinsville Community College and formerly served as Director of the Kentucky State Park Rangers. He has run unsuccessful races for sheriff and jailer in Christian County over the last couple of decades.
