A series of early releases of state inmates in Kentucky took their toll on the Todd County Jail, but Jailer Greg Allen says an unfortunate fact has brought the facility back to a good financial situation.
Jailer Allen gave his monthly report to Todd Fiscal Court last week, where he said the facility was holding 88 state inmates. Housing state inmates is how local jails stay afloat and Allen says he was told two years ago that things would turn back around for the better.
Allen says it’s sad, but true—most inmates commit crimes and return to jail soon after they are released.
The Todd County Jail has done well with its budget over the last year and had enough funds left over from this fiscal year to purchase several pieces of much-needed equipment.
Nearly 18-hundred dollars worth of property was stolen from a storage shed on Tandy Lane earlier this week.
The report says Warren Spencer told police someone broke into his shed at 313 Tandy sometime between Monday evening and Tuesday afternoon.
The perpetrator got away with $1,750 worth of lawn equipment and tools and did 300 dollars worth of damage to windows in the process of breaking in. Items stolen ranged from a chainsaw, to drills and included an expensive weed-eater.
No suspects are listed on the report and the investigation continues.
A young Hopkinsville man was arrested last night for allegedly throwing bricks at the front of a dialysis clinic.
Arrested around 8:30 last night was 18-year old Dorien Meullion, who was allegedly caught throwing bricks at the windows and door of Davita Dialysis on South Virginia St by the facility’s janitor.
When the janitor questioned Meullion, he reportedly began cussing him and walked away. Meullion was located by police a short time later and arrested on criminal mischief charges. Police say he was uncooperative, defiant and refused to give officers any of his personal information.
Two windows and a door were damaged at the clinic.
