Local youths will have an opportunity for a free plane ride Saturday morning at the Hopkinsville-Christian County Airport.
Airport Board member Wesley Westerfield says registration begins at 8 and plane rides start at 9 for children ages 8 through 17.
It’s the second year for the event, which Westerfield says feeds a child’s interest in flying and shows off the improvements to the local airport.
Last year’s event was very successful and well-attended and Westerfield says the airport board expects it to be larger this year with additional planes available for use.
Two Hopkinsville Police Officers and their four-legged partners performed well in a competition last week.
Officer Bill Beaird and partner “Spike” placed second in the narcotics search at the 5th Annual Harriman Police K-9 Certification Seminar in Harriman, Tennessee.
Officer Todd DeArmond and partner “Bokito” placed third in the “Hard Dog, Fast Dog” competition. The HPD teams competed against 50 other teams from other police agencies, military agencies and private contractors representing several different states.
