The Muhlenberg County Sheriff’s Department recently received a check worth over $40,000 as a result of a drug bust.
Commonwelath Attorney Ralph Vick presented the department with a check for $40,800 as a result of a drug bust that occurred on November, 24th.
Kentucky State Trooper Jon McGehee and Deputy Sheriff Will Ward performed a traffic stop on John D. Reid of Hilltop Lane in Drakesboro and found Reid in possession of heroin, prescription pills and marijuana and a search of his vehicle revealed crystal methamphetamine.
Following a search of Reid’s vehicle, officers were then able to obtain a search warrant for his residence where several ounces of crystal methamphetamine were located.
Officials say the drug bust was significant because the value of the crystal methamphetamine had a street value that exceeded $20,000.
Reid later received a 15 year prison sentence and agreed to pay the Commonwealth $48,000.00 in lieu of personal real estate; the Sheriff’s Department was awarded 85% of the forfeiture.
The sheriff’s office also received two checks for a total amount of $1,487 as a result of drug bust.
Officials say the monies will provide funding for supplies and equipment commonly used for law enforcement.
