A pedestrian was critically injured in Clarksville yesterday morning when a vehicle ran off the road and struck a gas pump, causing an explosion.
A news release from Clarksville Police says the incident happened at the Exxon on Riverside Drive around 8 am when a car driven by John Ward crossed oncoming traffic and hit one of the station's pumps.
The pump exploded, sending a fireball into a man who just happened to be walking in the parking lot. The victim was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he was listed in critical but stable condition. Police say Ward was not hurt.
