The Hopkinsville High School Site Based Decision Making Council has chosen its next principal.
With a unanimous vote, council members chose Curtis Higgins as its next principal. Higgins comes from the Jefferson County Public School System, where he has been the Assistant Principal at Myers Middle School.
He previously worked as a teacher and head football coach at Fern Creek High School. He also spent eight years in the Trigg County School system as a teacher and head football coach before leaving for Louisville in 2006. Higgins also spent five years in the Oldham County School system in the early 1990's.
Christian County School System Superintendent Mary Ann Gemmill says the unanimous council vote was evidence of the passion Higgins exuded during the interview process.
Eleven candidates applied for the job and five of those applicants were interviewed. The previous site based council began the hiring process and continued meeting with the new council when the fiscal year calendar turned over at the beginning of the month.
Higgins takes over for Demetria Choice, who recently announced her retirement.
