Hopkinsville Electric System recently received the American Public Power Association’s Community Service Award at the Association’s national conference in Nashville, TN.
The award recognizes “good neighbor” activities that demonstrate the commitment of the utility and its employees to the community.
HES won the award for their collective efforts in the United Way annual employee Care Share participation, pledging 1 hour’s pay per month. The generous donations benefit the needs of local United Way agencies in its mission to create opportunities for a better life focusing on education, income and health, and to give back to the community.
General Manager Austin Carroll says every single one of the utility’s 41 employees has contributed at a level of 100% Care Share participation. He says they may never see some of the faces that benefit from the United Way contributions, but those impacted will have felt the touch in their lives.
In the most recent 2012 campaign, HES employees collectively pledged nearly $22,000, and the total amount since participating at this level has been approximately $133,865.
