Leaders at Kentucky's two largest colleges say a federal court action on affirmative action likely won't impact how they do business.
The U.S. Supreme Court ordered the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals to rehear a case of a woman claiming she was denied admission to the University of Texas in favor of minority students solely due to their ethnicity.
The University of Kentucky and University of Louisville both use affirmative-action policies when considering applicants, but Louisville Admissions Director Jenny Sawyer tells the Courier Journal their practices likely won't be changed by whatever the court decides.
She says they don't use race as “preferential treatment” and there is no pre-established quota to meet.
Meanwhile, University of Kentucky Executive Director of Public Relations and Marketing Jay Blanton says they consider any factor which may lead to a greater diversity of viewpoints, perspectives, attitudes and experiences.
