The weather was almost perfect for the Todd County Relay for Life on the Elkton Public Square Friday evening.
The event began with opening ceremonies at 6 and the four participating teams started the walk around the square around 7 o’clock. Chairing the 2013 Relay was Melissa Higgins, who said the cause is important to her because of the people she’s known who have had to fight and who are fighting cancer.
There weren’t as many people on the square for the event as organizers would have liked, but Ms. Higgins said she was pleased with those who did attend.
Events were to continue through midnight. It was the second year in a row the Relay was held on the square after several years of having it at the track around the Todd County Central High School football field. This year's Relay raised $27,561 for the American Cancer Society.
