Fort Campbell Garrison Commander, Colonel David Dellinger announced today that the post’s nearly 3,000 civilian workers will be furloughed due to budget constraints.
Colonel Dellinger offered more details about the furlough which will be implemented during the remainder of the fiscal year, with the new fiscal year to begin October 1st.
Colonel Dellinger says furloughing the post’s civilian workers and cutting services offered on post will likely put a strain on the military installation and military families.
Limited exceptions will be made on a case by case basis and will be granted based on life, health and safety justifications.
In fiscal year 2012, Fort Campbell’s impact on the community was $4.7 billion, which includes military, retirement and civilian paychecks and Colonel Dellinger added that civilian pay checks accounted about a fourth of the $ 4.7 billion.
