An abandoned church building near Pembroke burned Thursday evening.
The Pembroke Volunteer Fire Department responded to the Cedar Grove Church, more recently known as the Cedar Grove Family Center on Howard Dickerson Road just before 6 p.m.
Lieutenant Robert Luttrull says the building was fully involved in flames when he arrived and it was a complete loss. Lieutenant Luttrull said the cause of the blaze wasn’t immediately known, but he didn’t believe the building located between the Anderson Road and Barkers Mill Road intersections had electricity. Local residents say the church hadn’t been used in over two decades.
The Oak Grove Fire Department and Christian County Sheriff’s Department also responded to the scene, with crews leaving around 8 p.m.
