The Christian County Animal Shelter should be operating at full capacity by the end of next week, if all goes as expected.
Shelter Director Irene Grace says painting and other final touches are underway now and the building should be able to hold as many cats and dogs as it did before the fire in March within the next few days.
The fire was confined to the east wing, but Ms. Grace says smoke damage caused some repairs to be needed throughout the building.
Work is also well underway to construct an addition to the shelter, which was already planned and funded before the fire. No animals were injured in the blaze thanks to the employees, volunteers and first responders who helped rescue all of the cats and dogs who were inside.
