The man robbed at gunpoint on Tate Street in Hopkinsville Thursday afternoon was a suspended Murray State University basketball player.
As previously reported, Hopkinsville Police identified the victim as 20-year old Zaveral “Zay” Jackson of Murray. The report says Jackson was robbed at gunpoint by a black male standing about 6-2 and weighing aproximately 220 pounds sometime between 12:35 and 1pm as he dropped off a friend at 1510 Tate Street.
Officials at Murray State confirmed the victim is the same person as the suspended Racer student-athlete.
Jackson said the suspect had dread locks and was wearing a black hoodie and blue jeans. The suspect used a black and silver pistol to commit the robbery and got away with an undisclosed amount of cash.
Police said they questioned a suspect a few hours later, but no arrests had been made as of Friday morning.
Jackson was suspended from the Murray State basketball team for the entire season last fall following his arrest after allegedly striking two people with his car in a Wal-Mart parking lot following an altercation.
He was indicted by a Calloway County grand jury on charges of second-degree assault and first-degree wanton endangerment last month and is awaiting trial.
