There is finally an answer on what is going to happen with the area code in western Kentucky.
The Kentucky Public Service Commission chose the “overlay” option, meaning there will be 270 and 364 area codes in western Kentucky beginning in the spring of 2014. Only new phone numbers will have the new area code. PSC Spokesman Andrew Melnykovych explains what the “overlay” will mean to the average person.
Melnykovych says you won’t be required to dial an area code until February of 2014.
Officials had discussed forming a new area code map, which projected to put Todd and Christian Counties in separate area codes and would have required businesses in Christian County to purchase new business cards, stationary and anything else that featured a phone number.
