Former 101st Airborne Division Commanding General, David Petraeus has resigned today as Director of the CIA after admitting to an extramarital affair.
According to his letter of resignation, he went to President Barack Obama on Thursday to allow him to resign, which the President accepted.
Petraeus wrote that after being married for over 37-years, he showed poor judgement by engaging in an extramarital affair and that such behavior is unacceptable both as a husband and as a leader of the an organization such as the CIA.
Petraeus also wrote that it has been the greatest of privilege to have served with officers of our Nation’s Silent Service, a work force that is truly exceptional in every regard.
The resignation letter ended with the Four Star Army General thanking the CIA for extraordinary service to our country and wished the agency continued success.
