A Hopkinsville resident is in New York this week assisting residents there devastated by Hurricane Sandy.
Matt Westerfield says he’s carrying on the legacy of his late father Tom by joining the relief effort of the Southern Baptist Convention in Queens, New York. He says he drove a shower truck to New York to give volunteers a place to do laundry and to take a shower.
Westerfield and the group he’s with are also preparing hot meals each day for those impacted by the storm.
Westerfield says anyone wanting to help can donate to the Christian County Baptist Association with “disaster relief” noted in the memo section of the check. You can also send the check to the Southern Baptist Convention in Louisville or you can contact that agency about volunteering your own time to go where help is needed.
Matt Westerfield concluded his interview by congratulating his brother Whitney for his election to the 3rd District State Senate seat.
