Kentucky State Police continue to investigate the self-inflicted death of a Christian County Jail inmate, who was seeking treatment for a non-life threatening injury at Jennie Stuart Medical Center Saturday afternoon.
KSP Sergeant Dean Patterson explains the events that led up to the death of 40-year old Jeffery Downs of Paducah.
Sergeant Patterson says while Downs was treated at the local hospital, he was able to obtain a Christian County Deputy Jailer’s gun to injure himself.
State Police say Downs had been lodged in the Christian County Jail for parole violation.
Jennie Stuart’s Director of Marketing and Community Relations, Jim Goss says despite the best efforts of doctors, Downs passed away as a result of a self-inflicted gun shot wound.
