Purses are stolen out of shopping carts every day across the country and Clarksville Police were able to arrest a woman allegedly responsible for two such thefts yesterday.
Officers were called to a Fort Campbell Boulevard business around 11am after a 30-year old woman said her purse was stolen. Security footage showed a female pushing a shopping cart through the store, who allegedly stopped and took the purse.
The suspect was seen getting into a red pickup with a black front tag holder in the parking lot and the vehicle was located later in the day at another business. Officers asked the suspect, 27-year old Jennifer Bouknight of Sunset Court, Clarksville; to get out of the vehicle. She then allegedly put her truck in reverse and tried to get away—though officers were able to turn the vehicle off.
Police found two purses inside that were not hers and determined Ms. Bouknight allegedly used one of the victim’s credit cards. One of the purses belonged to the woman from the initial report and the other from a second incident.
The search also allegedly turned up prescription pills and cocaine. She said she owed a man 250 dollars and stole the purses to repay the debt.
