The Cadiz Police Department has been awarded two grants totaling over $8,500 to go towards the purchase of new body armor vests.
Chief Hollis Alexander was quoted as saying that the grant money will allow the department to equip each officer with the new gear.
The Kentucky Office of Homeland Security awarded Cadiz Police $6,050 for the purchase of the body armor and the U.S. Department of Justice Bulletproof Vest Partnership awarded the department a $2,500 grant for the purchase of 11 new ballistic vests.
Chief Alexander said the department expects to have the officers equipped with the new armor in about a month.
The department has also received an $18,133 grant to purchase new mobile data computers.
In addition, the department recently received a $9,300 grant from the Kentucky Office of Highway Safety to continue their successful traffic safety program.
In all, the Cadiz Police has been awarded nearly $36,000 in state and federal grant money this fiscal year.
