Governor Steve Beshear has proclaimed October as National Arts and Humanities Month in the Commonwealth.
Governor Beshear made the announcement in celebration of Kentucky’s artistics traditions and cultural heritage.
The governor was quoted as saying that the arts play a major role in telling the state’s unique cultural story from our earliest days.
According to a recent study conducted by the U.S. Department of Commerce Bureau of Economic Analysis, performing arts, museums and related activities contribute $427 million of Kentucky's annual gross state product.
The state also has more than 8,000 arts-related businesses and entrepreneurs that employ over 27,000 people.
