Governor Steve Beshear announced today that a 17-member panel has been created to help ensure that state agencies meet the policies and standards concerning child abuse and neglect cases.
Created by an executive order that was issued in July, the Child Fatality and Near Fatality External Review Panel will be conducting in-depth reviews of child fatalities and near fatalities that were determined to be the result of child abuse or neglect.
Governor Beshear was quoted as saying that this panel will play a critical role in efforts to protect Kentucky’s children.
The panel will be publishing an annual report of case reviews, findings and recommendations which will then be submitted to the Governor, the Cabinet for Health and Family Services Secretary, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court and the General Assembly.
The annual report will also be available to the public and will be published online at the websites of the Cabinet for Health and Family Services and Public Safety Cabinet.
