The woman who has directed the Pennyroyal Arts Council for the last eight years has decided to call it a career.
A news release from the Board of Directors at the Pennyroyal Arts Council says Executive Director Carol Barta will retire at the end of the year to spend more time with family, including her son and daughter who live out of the area.
Ms. Barta came to Hopkinsville from Pittsburgh in 2002 when her husband, Anthony Barta, took the pastoral position at First Presbyterian Church in Hopkinsville.
She is quoted in the release as saying the highlight of the last eight years is likely the renovation of the Alhambra Theatre, which was initiated by the Board of Directors in 2005 and was completed in 2008.
Ms. Barta says the most rewarding part of the job has been interacting and working with the people of the community to bring and nurture the appreciation of arts.
The Arts Council is currently housed in the old L&N train depot located on East 9th Street.
