Friends and former colleagues shocked by the death of Tom Westerfield are remembering him as a Christian man who dedicated much of his life to improving mental health in this part of western Kentucky.
Westerfield served at the Pennyroyal Center, including a seven year stint as Executive Director.
Current Executive Director David Ptaszek says Westerfield kept the local center operating successfully during a time when many similar facilities across Kentucky were struggling.
Ptaszek also pointed out that Westerfield was responsible for opening Trace Industries, which provides job opportunities to adults with developmental disabilities.
Westerfield was an active member at First Baptist Church in addition to his service as a volunteer in many area causes. He is survived by wife Gina and six sons—including State Senate candidate Whitney Westerfield.
