The arrest warrant issued for the man accused of murder on Old Palmyra Road early Sunday morning tells a bizarre story that ended with tragedy.
Arrested Sunday afternoon and charged with murder was 29-year old Micah Holland of Champion Highway, Pembroke. Holland is accused of shooting his cousin, 30-year old Joey Weatherwax of Cox Mill Road, in front of 7875 Old Palmyra just after 3am and then running him over with a vehicle.
A witness told Detective Bobby Nichols that he heard Weatherwax and Holland arguing over the phone sometime before the incident while at the Old Palmyra Road address.
The same witness said he later saw Weatherwax standing in front of a vehicle, heard a loud pop and then saw him fall to the ground before being run over.
The suspect’s father told police Micah had called him before the shooting saying he was looking for Weatherwax. The man said his son sounded as if he had been drinking alcohol.
The father said Micah Holland was angry because he believed Weatherwax and another man had loosened the lug nuts on his vehicle. Holland’s father said he received another phone call from his son after the shooting, saying he had shot Weatherwax. The warrant quotes Holland as saying quote—“I think I messed up, I shot Joey.”
Holland reportedly changed his story between two separate phone calls with his father, going from saying it was self defense to saying Weatherwax never had a gun.
The suspect told his father he might commit suicide or drive to Louisiana, but was instead booked in the Christian County Jail within nine and a half hours of the shooting after being arrested on Fort Campbell Boulevard in Oak Grove by Deputy Ed Stokes.
