Governor Steve Beshear has appointed State Representative John Tilley of Hopkinsville to a national task force on veterans’ issues.
Specifically, Representaitve Tilley says the ten Kentuckians and representatives from nine other states will look at ways to treat soldiers returning from the Middle East who are suffering from a number of mental health issues.
Cumberland Hall Director of Clinical Services Donna Birney will join Tilley on the task force in Washington D.C.
Representative Tilley says the local veterans’ shelter operated by Cumberland Hall is a good example of how Kentucky is already making efforts to help those who have served.
When the groups return home, they will have two months to issue a report on their findings and recommendations specific to their respective state. The task force is sponsored by the federal Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, which covers the travel expenses of participants.
