A Hopkinsville man was arrested early this morning for allegedly leading police on a high speed chase through residential neighborhoods while driving impaired.
The arrest card for 22-year old Antonio Haskins of the city says he was observed straddling the center line in an SUV on East 9th street around 12:30am. Officers attempted to pull him over, but he allegedly continued on to South Campbell, East 10th and Walnut Streets.
Haskins would eventually stop and abandon his vehicle at East 18th and Jones, but a foot chase soon ended with a struggle and eventual arrest. Police say a handgun was found on the passenger side floor board of Haskins’ vehicle.
He was charged with fleeing and evading, resisting arrest, carrying a concealed deadly weapon and DUI. Haskins reportedly blew a .156 on the breath test, which is nearly twice the legal limit.
Charges of possession of marijuana and promoting contraband were tacked on when officials at the jail allegedly found a baggie of the illegal weed in his sock.
