The Christian County Grand Jury indictment returned against Hopkinsville City Councilwoman Ann Cherry includes three charges.
The “true bill” returned Friday lists one count each of tampering with public records, tampering with a witness and second degree official misconduct. There is nothing in Ms. Cherry’s court file which goes into any detail over what the charges are regarding.
A news release from Hopkinsville Police says the indictment centers around Ms. Cherry's alleged interference in the investigation of multiple burglaries and attempted burglaries in the city during the month of July.
In addition, multiple reliable sources say the crux of the case against Ms. Cherry relates to the investigation of the “Southside Prowler.” What exactly Ms. Cherry allegedly did to hinder that investigation has not been stated publicly by police or prosecutors.
The councilwoman was served with a criminal summons by Kentucky State Police Friday night around 9:20 at the Christian County Justice Center and will be arraigned in Circuit Court on August 29th at 8:30am.
Ms. Cherry has represented Ward 6 on City Council since 2009 and is on the ballot for a third term in November.
