State Senator Joey Pendleton of Hopkinsville will join Kentucky Commissioner of Agriculture Jamie Comer Thursday morning when they appear with U.S. Senator Rand Paul for a news conference at the Kentucky State Fair regarding industrial hemp.
Senator Pendleton, who is a Democrat, has supported legalizing the growing of industrial hemp in Kentucky for the last several years. Commissioner Comer, who is a Republican, has paired up with the senator on many occasions across Kentucky to speak to crowds about the product which they say is not the same as marijuana and that would help agriculture and create jobs.
One of the most well-known politicians in the country has joined them in Senator Paul and Pendleton says he’s glad to see the bi-partisan rally.
Senator Pendleton says having high ranking officials such as Commissioner Comer and Senator Paul supporting industrial hemp is unprecedented.
Federal law would still ban growing industrial hemp even if Kentucky passed a new law, but supporters want Kentucky farmers to be ready to start growing the product if and when those regulations are released.
