An attempted home invasion on Sanderson Drive Sunday night ended with the alleged perpetrator going to the hospital after the home owner fought back and shot him in the face.
The incident happened around 10:45 at 600 Sanderson, where 41-year old Byron Williams was at home with his wife and child when they heard someone apparently trying to force their way inside a back door.
A struggle ensued between Williams and the perpetrator, according to Hopkinsville Police Sgt. Mary Holland, who says Williams fired his gun into the suspect’s face when he saw the suspect reach for his waist band.
Sgt. Holland says the perpetrator did, in fact, have a gun on him when crews arrived at the scene. The would-be perpetrator was flown to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he came out of surgery early this morning.
An arrest warrant against the alleged burglar is expected to be filed sometime early this week. Police have declined to release his name at this time.
