The price of gasoline continues to rise and someone in Clarksville apparently found a creative and costly way to steal it undetected.
Clarksville Police were called to the Trenton Road BP around 8:15am Friday after a good Samaratan pumped a full tank of gas and got a receipt with all zeros. He went inside and showed the clerk that he had not been charged for any of the gas and that’s when the clerk discovered that someone had broken into the pumper to manipulate the technology.
Police believe it was done sometime Thursday night, but the station couldn’t say how many people had gotten free gas through the overnight and early morning hours. The BP was out at least 27-hundred dollars in losses from damage to the pump and stolen gas.
No suspects are listed on the report.
