The 101st Airborne Division is preparing for yet another rotation to Afghanistan and a local soldier says despite the hardships he had to face in the past, like losing his friend and former boss to combat, he continues to gladly serve in the Army.
2nd Brigade Combat Team Public Affairs Officer, Sergeant Joe Padula, who was recently promoted, says despite the challenges of war, the Army still provides opportunities for soldiers who want to better themselves.
Staff Sergeant Padula says there isn’t a day that doesn’t go by that he doesn’t think about his former boss, 25-year old Staff Sergeant James Hunter who was tragically killed in action on June 18th
, 2010 and was the first army journalist to make the ultimate sacrifice for his country.
Sergeant Padula is one of several Army journalists at Fort Campbell who often times followed soldiers assigned to the 2nd
Brigade Combat Team into harsh environments in order to tell their story whether it was in combat or while they trained at the local post.
