One of the four unsuccessful candidates who interviewed with Hopkinsville City Council for the open Ward 1 seat after the passing of Fred Atkins has filed to run for the position in this November’s election.
Christian County Elections Coordinator Melinda Humphries says Carolsue Daigre filed her papers to run as an independent and is currently unopposed. The other 11 council members chose Cornelia Belle to fill the seat for the remainder of the year, though she never committed to run in the election.
Ms. Daigre unsuccessfully ran for the seat as a Republican in 2002, but later changed her party affiliation to Democrat. The deadline to file as a partisan candidate has come and gone so any new candidates have to run as independents.
The deadline to file as an independent and to file for non-partisan races is August 14th.
