The Civil War continues to be known as the bloodiest battle in our nation’s history and many facts from that war are fading into time.
Jefferson Davis State Park Manager Ron Sydnor wants to ensure that the service and sacrifice of African-American soldiers are not forgotten.
Mr. Sydnor says many residents are unaware of the role African-American soldiers played during the Civil War.
Mr. Sydnor says a Kentucky unit was comprised of only African-American soldiers and that many soldiers in that regiment along with others were still treated like second class citizens even though they were willing to lay down their lives for a better future and freedom.
To honor African-American soldiers from the Civil War, a U.S. Colored Troops Living History and Blues Concert will be held on Tuesday August 11th at Jefferson Davis Park.
