Funding the state pension programs has been a major and extremely difficult task for the Kentucky General Assembly over the last several years and a group of 10 legislators has been formed to find a long-term solution.
One member of the Task Force on Pensions is State Representative Brent Yonts, who represents Muhlenberg and portions of Hopkins and Christian Counties. Representative Yonts says a number of factors have led to the current system structure failure.
The Task Force isn’t working on the problem alone, as agencies with expertise in the national problem have been called in for advice.
Representative Yonts says the group is supposed to have a recommendation by the end of the year and before next year’s short session of the General Assembly when re-districting will also have to be dealt with again.
