For the second time this month, a Clarksville child has gotten a hold of a parent’s gun and fired—with a three-year old injured in the most recent incident.
Clarksville Police responded to 139 Buttermore Drive around 5pm Sunday afternoon after a very distraught mother called 911 saying her toddler shot himself in the foot.
The mother said she was in the kitchen when she heard the gun go off and found the child on the couch. The boy’s mother applied pressure to the wound and elevated it until EMS arrived.
The boy was taken by helicopter to Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. Public Information Officer Jim Knoll says police plead with parents to be sure all firearms are secured to avoid becoming a victim of a similar incident.
